People who want to review a good outline of the Senate-Bush immigration proposal may want to read this post at Talk Left which features hot links to coverage and a Senate transcript. It seems to me that this deal is a step backward from last year's McCain-Kennedy (which was already not so good).

If you're a glutton for punishment, the text of the compromise draft is here . This compromise does not look to me as though it will succeed. Opposition from immigrant communities, left, right and center gets clearer as people read what's actually been proposed. Does this mean that the status quo isn't so bad?

I am wondering why the obvious is not mentioned. The illegals broke our laws! Now they want us to reward them for doing so.
If someone broke into our homes no one would try to work out a deal to make them happy.
Whatever happened to common sense.
