Free in NYC This Sunday (Jan. 14th)? Open Invite to a terrific MLK Event…

John Edwards, recently touted on this blog, will be giving the keynote remarks at the 2nd annual "Realizing the Dream" King Day Commemoration Ceremony, this Sunday (the 14th) at 4pm at The Riverside Church (at 121st and Riverside, directions available through the link). Joining Senator Edwards for a service that will center on the state of King's mission today- with particular emphasis on poverty and economic inequity in the U.S.- will be Marian Wright Edelman, Martin Luther King, III, and Dr. James A. Forbes, Jr. There'll also be a mess of good music, including a 5-church megachoir performing an original piece of music built around King's "Letters from a Birmingham Jail," and an ecumenical selection of religious leaders connecting King's work and social message to their respective Scriptural traditions.

In short, a good mix serious stuff and happy stuff. The event is emphatically open to all, so bring your friends to celebrate an important day in a very very beautiful institution.

And it's free.
