Sick

New York State is a blue state. Foundations are always telling me they want to give away their money in red states. A recent study, The Unheard Third, by the Community Service Society clearly demonstrates the importance of looking beyond the narrow politics of red and blue.

The report finds that

almost two-thirds of the working poor in New York City lack even a single day of paid sick leave. This is true even among full-time workers, more than half of whom have no sick days at all.

So, being blue doesn't seem to do much for the working poor.

Poverty rates are hovering near twenty percent in New York City, too, so it is not just sick leave policy which is sick.
