Craig Smith

Craig Smith is currently the Associate Director of Higher Education for the American Federation of Teachers where his primary responsibilities are field services and communications with an emphasis on political and legislative action. Craig has been on the AFT National Staff for seven years. He also serves as the coordinator for the Free Exchange on Campus coalition.

Prior to joining the AFT's National Staff, he was a full-time faculty member for seven years at Salt Lake Community College. During his time as a faculty member, he helped to establish an AFT local at the College, and ultimately worked to affiliate the SLCC Faculty Association with AFT, which became the first and only recognized higher education local in the state of Utah. Craig also served as an officer on the AFT Utah Executive Council.

Craig's educational background is in English, history, and cultural studies. His undergraduate degree is from Miami University in Ohio. He earned his Master's degree from Syracuse University and was in the Communications PhD program at the University of Utah when he left to take his faculty position at the community college.
