Chauncee Smith

Chauncee Smith is currently a Stein Scholar and Juris Doctor candidate at Fordham University School of Law. He graduated from UCLA in 2006 with a B.A. in Political Science specializing in American Politics. While at UCLA, Chauncee produced honors research and a thesis essay on the relationship between presidential rhetoric and contemporary political partisanship. Beyond academic life, Chauncee has worked to promote progressive policy reform through internships with California State Senator Sheila Kuehl, and the Center for Governmental Studies. While at CGS, Chauncee produced research on legislative redistricting that contributed to the publishing of “Re-Drawing Lines: A Public Interest Analysis of California’s 2006 Redistricting Reform Proposals.” In addition to public policy work, Chauncee is also committed to mitigating the impacts of social injustice through grassroots efforts. At the community level, Chauncee has served as an academic coordinator to marginalized high schools students, and as a legal aid assistant to indigent litigants.
