Rubio Gets Called Out

GOP Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez defended Florida Governor Charlie Crist's support for the stimulus at a fundraiser Sunday.

Back in March, Harry reported on the tension between the GOP campaign rhetoric of Marco Rubio and the realities of governing faced by Crist. At the time Rubio was up 18 points in a primary against Crist after slamming the governor's support for the stimulus. Now Crist has opted for an independent run that puts him much closer to Rubio in the general election. And while some in the Republican party want their money back, it looks like others want Rubio to get real:

Asked if the governor could have taken the money without campaigning for it with President Barack Obama, Alvarez said, ``It's kind of hypocritical to take the money and then badmouth it.''

``What would have happened to our budget without the stimulus money?'' Alvarez asked the crowd of about 150 people at the Grand Beach Hotel in Miami Beach, ``The people who criticize it have never run anything in their lives.''
