Bush Health Care Lives

I knew I was being far too optimistic when I declared Whole Foods CEO John Mackey's attempt to dust off the Bush health care plan the "last gasp" of these deeply flawed proposals. Certainly, insisting that Americans have no right to health care (and, in fact, that it's our own fault if we get cancer) has not been working out too well for Mackey, but that hasn't stopped members of Congress from reciting the same ill-advised policy advice. Senator Mike Enzi did it and this week Congresswoman Michele Bachmann also joins the chorus.

Yet again we have Association Health Plans, changing the tax treatment of health benefits, insisting that if only you couldn't take that neglectful nursing home to court all our health care problems would be solved... The same proposals that failed for President Bush are dressed up as brand new bipartisan solutions. Give them credit for the chutzpah.
