Going, Going, GONE! (But not if you check eBay first…)

benefit_08_badge.gifHave you ever gotten frustrated with all that slow-moving legislation in the House, and just wanted to take Nancy Pelosi's gavel and smack it down on the table? Well, now you can. One lucky bidder in DMI's annual auction will get a signed gavel from Nancy Pelosi, which can be used to take out any kind of political frustrations that you like.

Every year at our Annual Benefit, DMI has an auction. But this year our auction won't just be taking place during the event itself on May 20, but before (and just a little bit after) on eBay. All of the items up for bidding are currently posted on the site.

The items up for bidding this year are pretty fantastic. We have lunches with political consultant James Carville, Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel, and SEIU president Andy Stern. There are two VIP tickets to the musical In the Heights (which was just nominated for 13 Tony awards on Tuesday) and two VIP tickets to a performance of
of Brazilian songwriter Ivan Lins at Lincoln Center.

The auction will end on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. This means that even if you can't make it to the benefit, you'll still be able to competitively bid on the items.

We hope you can make it to the Annual Benefit, where we'll be honoring David Simon, the producer/director of The Wire, "for deftly exploring the realities of America's neglected cities." We'll also be honoring PowerPAC.org founder Steve Phillips and New York City Councilwomen Melissa Mark-Viverito.

But if you can't make it to the event, start bidding!
