Hillary Clinton’s “Mating Ritual” With Rupert Murdoch

There's a lot of talk from the media and the pundit class about "red and blue America," supposedly increased political "polarization" - but as my new book, Hostile Takeover details, that narrative is a deliberate farce designed to hide the very tightly-knit, bipartisan consensus in the Establishment that makes sure Big Money interests and the power structure are protected. Think that sounds like a conspiracy theory? Think that sounds crazy? Think again - and check out the front page of CBS News's website today.

There you will find an article headlined "Rupert Murdoch Loves Hillary Clinton." The story notes:

"Conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch will host a fundraiser for liberal New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, the Financial Times reports. The mating ritual of the unlikely allies has been under way for months. Clinton set political tongues to wagging last month by attending a Washington party celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fox News, the cable news channel owned by Murdoch."

The brazenness of this move is almost too much to stomach, even in a story about Hillary Clinton. Here you have a leading Democratic U.S. Senator engaging in a "mating ritual" with the head of the news network that has overtly worked to systematically destroy both the Democratic Party and her own husband's administration.

Here you have a top member of the American government shaking down cash from a guy whose record is chock full of union-busting, tax-evading, local media crushing, war mongering and all sorts of other disgusting behavior - behavior permitted by Congress without question, thanks to America's system of legalized bribery, as epitomized in the Clinton-Murdoch fundraiser.

Here you have, in short, proof that the hostile takeover of our government runs far deeper than we ever imagined, in a far more bipartisan way than we wanted to admit. Thank you, Sen. Clinton - in bragging about the fundraiser you are holding with the right-wing billionaire who has worked to destroy your party and your husband, at least you are (albeit inadvertently) acknowledging how far-reaching the hostile takeover of our government really is.

Hello David.

Clinton was the first American Murdoch President.

Thing is, Murdoch has been doing this, co-opting the left, for decades in Australia.

I can't recommend enough chapters 3 and 5 of John Pilger's "A Secret Country." The country in question is Australia.

The whole book is good enough, but those parts are particularly damning.

It also includes this quote which I'll blogged years ago:

"Is this country
to continue to be run
with Governments being made and broken,
and men being made and broken,
by snide, slick innuendoes
of a lying, perjuring pimp,
Rupert Murdoch?"

I don't think Latham (last Australian Labour leader for PM) was a Murdoch lefty, though. Certainly Blair is.

I've been saying for years that Fox picked Howard Dean to run against Bush, and nine months later, when the WMD failed to materialize, they picked Kerry.

When the WMD were sure to be found, no better candidate could be found than Mr. Dean.

When the WMD were sure not to be found, the GOP couldn't wish for anyone better than Kerry.

Clark would attract military voters.
Edwards would attract women.
Gephardt would attract union members (only 60% vote Dem now?)
Dean would not lose the NRA vote.

In other words, Kerry, as a lawyer from Massachusetts, had the smallest base outside of the Democrat Party, which made him perfect for Bush.

Sorry, of course I meant Clinton was first _left_ President of Murdoch's. Reagan and Murdoch, obviously, were thick as thieves.

There are a number of implications in this relationship. I just wish people would stop referring to the Clinton's as liberals. This should disprove that claim. The Clinton's are anything but liberal.

Here in Pennsylvania the fact of Hillary becoming a conduit for Murdoch cash into Democratic candidates is scary considering just last month Hillary was hauling Bob "I'm a pro-life Democrat" Casey around the money circuit in Chicago. If Clinton is getting support from Murdoch and at the same time giving support to the right wing Casey then Casey too is bought by the right.

Does Rupert see the demise of the GOP power center in Washington?

Can anyone trust the Democrats?

We're the DemocatIC Party. Anyone saying otherwise undermines any other commentary they have made.

Here's one thing you can take to the bank: Murdoch is playing Hillary. This "fundraiser" is all part of Rove's plan to promote Hillary as the Dems' front-runner in '08, as she is the best candidate for a Right Winger to run against, and the best hope they have to hold on to the WH. Let's just hope that one of the other Dems is able to rise above the Fake News/Rovian noise machine.

The job of politicians is to get elected to higher and higher office. Senator Clinton is no different. She takes the left for granted because she can. As a practical matter where are we going to go?

She reaches rightward because that's where her weakness is. She's the right's poster-girl for "NY Liberal" (It seems to me there's a Republican in Ark. whose campaign pitch is that tthe Democrat is a liberal as Hillary C. )

The point is that, the politicians will love the left when it's strong. So, the vital question in my mind is: how can be better organize, reach out and raise rabble?

It's beyond disturbing yet not surprising to see something like this happen. I desparately hope Hillary won't end up being the Democractic candidate.. I just couldn't bring myself to vote for her. She's not progressive in the ways that are so important to me..

Carolyn is right, Hillary is being propped up. If you Democrats weren't busy hating Bush for everything under the sun you'd see where your party is going and that Hillary isn't the answer. Maybe give mark Warner some consideration.

Mark Warner is a maybe... I just have trouble trusting him. I would prefer John Edwards, but I'm liking the campaign slogan "Not Hillary '08" right about now.

Carolyn is right. And I hope Hillary will be the democratic candidate in 08'. She'e 10 times worse than what her husband was. She's been very vocal in her anticapitalistic-type views. And just listen to some of the things that come out her mouth sometimes. "Young people these days think work is a 4-letter word". What the f#@#? I hope that young people think work is a 4-letter word! How many letters does she think are in the word work? Yep, she's going to be just perfect.

I don't believe that Hillary will becom candidate in 2008.

If she was be elected by the people also as president the Usa would be ruled form 1989-2013 by only two families.

If I was a republican campaigner I would say: It's time for a change (or a new challange) with a new face (maybe Condi? But she has no family.)

Sorry to disappoint the GOP but I think in the end the Democrats across the country are going to have the final say in the run up to the nomination....Kerry and Edwards will be the only two standing. The nomination may go to Edwards and he will pick John Kerry. He got 48% of the vote in 2004, I think there are a lot of Dems who will go for a Edwards/ Kerry ticket again......Hillary is being to hardly touted by Chris Matthews at every turn on MSNBC, and all the hateful Right Wing pundits, because they can only keep their base by playing on Clinton-Hate......and Hillary nomination will give them something to leave the house for. Look at this post in 2008 again....to remind yourself that you read it hear it will be a Edwards/Kerry ticket again.
They've already thrown all the mud at these two, a second time around won't have the same affect and these two are already strong with 48%.....after Katrina disaster....Edwards will garner a few Southern states on Election night. Who do the GOP have that brings out even 40% of their voters......no one, which is why they want Hil.

I hope Dean decides to run with possibly Wesley Clark as his Vp.
