Valentina Ramia

Born and raised in Quito, Ecuador, Valentina moved to New York in 2004 to pursue her graduate studies at Milano, The New School for Urban Policy and Management. She joined the DMI as a research intern in Nov 2006 after graduating with honors as a Master of Science in Urban Policy Analysis. Today, she participates strongly in progressive policy and politics in both hemispheres of the Americas.

Valentina is a member of the National Council and Education Commission of Ruptura de los 25, a civil society organization that recently joined other groups to form Alternativa Democratica, a political party identified with young and progressive ideas. She also co-founded the Ecuadorian Consortium for Social Responsibility (CERES) and became its first General Coordinator. At CERES, she worked on the promotion of social responsibility, capacity building programs for foundations and non-profit organizations, and advocacy of socially responsible policies with the Ecuadorian government. She also worked on political campaigns in the Ecuadorian Amazon to denounce the impact of oil exploration on indigenous communities.

In all of her professional and political work, Valentina maintains a commitment to the use of progressive policy as a tool for building communities dedicated to democratic social justice and ecological stability. Her current policy prerogatives include relocating schools within the fabric of communities, energy policy and affordable housing on both sides of the equator. She loves El Chavo and her dog Ramona Gutierrez.
